SENTIMENTAL EDUCATION OF EUGÈNIE a film by Aurelio Grimaldi
reely inspired by the novel “La Philosophie dans le boudoir” by Donatieu Alphonse - Françoise De Sade, the story commences with Madame de Saint-Ange, who has been charged by Eugènie's (libertine!) father to take care of the “education” of the beautiful but unfledged adolescent. To do this she avails herself of two persons, the libertine and perverse Marquess Dolmancé and his sensuous brother and lover, the Cavalier. When she arrives at the noble country mansion, which Madame has transformed into a bachelor's apartment, Eugènie shows herself to be surprised and embarrassed by the presence of the two men. But Madame manages to be reassuring and convinces her of the importance of Dolmancé for the successful outcome of the “lessons”. Dolmancé thus commences Eugénie's sentimental education … Sensuality, eroticism, vitality, irony” An unpublished De Sade, carnal, happily licentious, gaily passionate. No “sadist” violence, but a great deal of blissful sexuality.
